Fashion Faux Paus of the Texan Variety

Texas is full of colorful, friendly "folks." As I've gotten to know more of them, I really do admire their no nonsense approach to life as well as their ability to make a stranger feel right at home. However, people-watching in this state is something to behold!

The fashion sense here is a wide scope of styles and tastes. You see everything straight from the pages of Vogue, to casual chic, jeans and t-shirt, and every range of western wear imaginable. The 40 and over crowd has a fashion sense all of their own. There is no self-consciousness when it comes to what they want to wear and they will wear the most amazingly wrong ensambles with shameless pride.

Here is a re-make of the outfit I found on a woman in her 50's at a chili cookoff yesterday:

The Belted Dress

This belted dress is such a great look. The light, airy fabric paired with a thick silver belt really comes together nicely-- Uh oh, I'm inspired to go shopping...
I plan to copy this style and am always on the lookout for great ways to use silver. If you want to change up your existing wardrobe, find a great belt to go with an old dress. You have so many options now, enough to create your own style.

Yawning Over Fall 2008

Ho-hum...

I have to ask, didn't we just do this??
Fall 2008 debuts with looks from the 60's, 70's, and 80's. We didn't just 'do' this look, per the original, but we re-did this look and now are re-doing the reincarnation yet again as a pathetic excuse to haul our mothball-infested garb back out into the streets. It's not that I don't like certain pieces of these collections--flared pants and retro prints are very wearable-- but can't we at least put them together in a new way? Maybe with a little color?
Please!?
Fall is stacking up to be just the beginning of winter.

Spring Picks

Spring is here! It's time to show off our shoulders and calves again, toss off those warm winter wraps, and have some fun in the sunshine. To get it all done, here are some spring picks I'm loving.

Project Runway Finalist Showcases Line

Say what you will about reality TV, Alexandra Vidal who was a finalist on season one's Project Runway, is making a statement at Fashion Week 2008. Her line of evening gowns take a spin off of period garments mixed with her own touch of modern appeal.
What do you think? Is she out of her league or earning her right to rub elbows in New York?

Short Take from Fashion Week, New York

Take it from the runway fashionistas-- tights and hose are "in" this fall. From matallic sheen to ripped gothic threads, the legs were all the rage. Snagged, striped, or knit, more than one designer gave their own personal touch to revitalize this look.

Try wearing a pair with a layered jumper and ballet flats or skirt and heels.
